Escola EB23 de Salir won 3rd place in the Energy Up contest with the project Comunidade Energética Escolar

This award means recognition of the energy-related project that brings real impact to society and challenges students to be an active part of this mission.

On May 25th, the GALP Foundation announced with its partners, APA, ADENE, DGEG and DGE and Quercus, the result of the competition - ENERGY UP - accessible to all primary and secondary schools in Portugal, to distinguish Portuguese schools, which have invested in the sustainability of the school community.

Of the approximately 60 applications, referring to school groups across the country, 7 of which in the Algarve, the following winners stand out:

Firstly, the SmartAir project, presented by the Gafanha da Nazaré Schools Group, in the district of Aveiro, related to the promotion of sustainable mobility, sensitizing the city's citizens to the use of bicycles, carrying out awareness campaigns, and pressing for improvement of accesses for the use of non-polluting means

In second place was the Solar Trees project, presented by the Monserrate Schools Group, in Viana do Castelo, which consists in the creation of a garden bench, installed in the school, which allows the charging of electronic devices using solar energy.

In third place, with a value of one thousand euros in support + environmental awareness session by Quercus, it was up to the Escola Energética Escolar project, by the Professor Sebastião Teixeira School, in Salir, by the Padre João Coelho Cabanita School Group, in Loulé, project developed with the support of the Municipality of Loulé.

This project focuses on raising awareness and promoting the energy transition and decarbonisation of the school park through photovoltaic production for self-consumption. The jury considered this work very complete, due to its origins and capacity to be extrapolated to other school equipment.

Two more projects were also distinguished, O Futuro Está no Presente, promoted by the Cardosos Lopes Schools Group, in Amadora, and Luz Verde, of the Nun"Alvres Institute, in Santo Tirso, which will be presented with an environmental awareness action given by the Quercus.
